What Does the 2021 Mazda CX-30 Offer?

Just in its second year of existence, the Mazda CX-30 is nevertheless considered one of the top subcompact crossover SUVs in the market for a variety of attributes. Possessing Mazda's penchant for athletic engineering, the Mazda CX-30 is also blessed with a wide-open cargo hold, an upscale cabin, and several standard advanced safety features. The 2021 model year is split into four trim levels, which are the 2.5 S, Select, Preferred, and Premium.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 186 horsepower and hitched to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine's total output is the highest from a base model subcompact SUV. New for this model year is the optional turbocharged version of this engine, which pumps out 227 horsepower when using regular gasoline and 250 horsepower when using premium fuel. Peak fuel economy is acceptable, at 25/33 mpg with the standard front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional for improving traction performance. The CX-30 has the sharp steering of a sports sedan, and it is highly maneuverable due to its small size. If you want paddle shifters for an increase in gear shifting convenience, go with the Premium.

Seating and Storage

A five-seater, the 2021 Mazda CX-30 serves up to 20.2 cubic feet of cargo volume between the rear seats and the liftgate. This space is designed with a low lift-in height and a wide hatch opening for optimal functionality. Leather replaces the urethane of the steering wheel at the Select trim level. Heating ability on the front seats and eight-way power with memory settings on the driver's seat appear at the Preferred trim level. A touch of luxury appears on the top-level Premium trim level with the cloth seat trim replaced with leather.

Comfort and Convenience

For this year, Mazda introduced Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration as standard. It joins other infotainment features, such as an eight-speaker AM/FM stereo system, HD Radio, voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, a Wi-Fi hotspot, two USB ports for hooking up mobile devices, and an 8.8-inch display. Also present are Mazda Connected Services for a rich suite of connectivity features and a rotary controller to execute infotainment functions. A 7-inch screen comprises a digital instrument cluster, and remote keyless entry enables access with the press of your key fob. At the Select trim level, additional climate controls are placed on the front passenger side, a button is placed next to the steering wheel to start the engine without an ignition key, and remote keyless entry is upgraded to proximity keyless entry for access by simply having the key fob on you. Mazda adds a moonroof on the Preferred, and only the Premium gets a navigation system, a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio, a power liftgate, and a 12-speaker Bose stereo system.

For driver assistance, the 2021 Mazda CX-30 provides a rearview camera, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology, driver attention alert, and automatic high-beam control. Eight airbags, two frontal impact airbags, two front-seat knee airbags, two side impact airbags, and two side curtain airbags are present to be deployed if necessary if a crash occurs. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are added at the Select trim level. Unique to the Premium are a head-up display to present vital vehicle information directly at the driver's line of sight and an adaptive front-lighting system for more accurate illumination.
